Whether you're launching a product in Dubai or checking customer sentiment across the wider UAE, the process for running credible market research is the same regardless of company size. Here's the practical path from question to insight.

1. Write down the decision you're trying to make

The most common mistake is starting with "we need a survey" instead of "we need to decide X." A clear decision - launch this product or not, adjust this price or not, prioritize this feature or not - determines everything downstream: sample size, question design, and analysis plan.

2. Choose your methodology

Most UAE consumer research runs as CAWI (online survey) given the market's very high smartphone penetration. B2B or niche professional audiences may need a panel-based approach with role verification. See our comparison of CAWI, CATI, and face-to-face methods if you're unsure which fits your audience.

3. Define who you need to hear from

  • UAE nationals vs. the large expatriate population - these segments often behave very differently
  • Dubai vs. Abu Dhabi vs. the Northern Emirates - urban density and income distribution vary
  • Age, income, and category-usage criteria specific to your decision

4. Check feasibility before you commit a budget

If your target incidence rate is low - a niche professional group, a rare product category - run a feasibility check first. It costs little and prevents a blown timeline later.

UAE market research moves from a clear decision to the right method, audience, fieldwork, and recommendation.

5. Field the study

Sample sizeTypical timeline (CAWI, standard consumer)
100-300Same day to 2 days
300-1,0002-5 days
1,000+5-10+ days, depending on targeting criteria

6. Analyze with the original decision in mind

Go back to the decision you wrote down in step one. Every cross-tab and chart should answer part of that decision, not just describe the data. A results deck that doesn't end in a recommendation hasn't finished the job.

If your report doesn't end with a decision, the research isn't done yet - it's just data.
